Catalogue text
A festival dedicated to performance art, featuring live performances, screenings, lectures and open discussions. The BIOS festival aspires to become a creative platform for the promotion and research of contemporary approaches on performance art.
OPA 02 focuses on the notion of postproduction in art. Postproduction is present today in all kinds of expression and communication, both through the rephrasing of ideas, sampling, adaptation, reproduction and copying, as well as through the unconscious reference to already phrased ideas.
The notion of postproduction is vividly present today, during a period of artistic saturation, where the art products are now offered widely through books, papers, and mainly through the Internet.
The question “What can we do with what we already have?” is useful for the contemporary art creation.
It is within this frame that the creative team of BIOS invited artists to re-think, re-use and re-assign their ideas concerning the already existing artistic creation in performance art.
This year, OPA 02 features recorded performances by artists like Vito Acconci, John Baldessari, Fluxus, Paul McCarthy, Herrman Nitsch, Yoko Ono, along with their postproductions by contemporary Greek and foreign artists.
